There are two options when it comes to self-build methods – offsite manufacturing and traditional build.
Before you make a decision, it’s important to understand the differences.
Here are a few things to consider:
Cost
Offsite manufacturing can offer significant savings as they are constructed in a factory in bulk. They are also quick to construct because of their modular nature and can be tailored to suit any budget.
However, if you’re keen to create something more bespoke and you’re willing to spend the extra money, then a traditional build may be more suitable. Bear in mind that this option can be labour intensive and costs have to be factored in for extended scaffolding hire and waste removal.
Quality
Offsite manufacturing methods ensure the highest quality possible and will give you peace of mind that your build is manufactured to the highest standards.
With traditional build, you have the flexibility to choose from a range of materials, therefore still ensuring high quality. However, builders or joiners of the Structural Timber Association (STA) may not have a Quality Assurance Scheme in place to produce timber frame on site. Therefore, no independent checks will be made when it comes to build quality or adherence to design drawings.
Design
